Albania sends 30 doctors to help Italy in the fight against COVID-19

TIRANA, March 28 - A team of 20 Albanian doctors and 10 nurses arrived in Italy on Saturday afternoon to assist the neighboring country in the fight against the COVID-19. The decision was taken by the Albanian government following an earlier agreement reached between Prime Minister Edi Rama and Italian Foreign Minister Luigi di Maio on Friday.
The medical staff will later be transferred to Bergamo, the country's worst-hit area by the pandemic.
According to Italian newspaper 'Corriere della Serra', the Albanian doctors will assist the Italian medical staff for a month and they will receive a total of 95,000 dollars, paid through the Albanian state budget's reserve fund.
"Doctors save lives and now we are rediscovering the most important value in the world that is life," Di Maio said.
Italy announced 919 new deaths from the coronavirus on Friday, the highest number of fatalities reported in the world in a timeline of 24 hours. The total number of people who have died as a result of COVID-19 in the country is now 9,134.
